From Monday, August 4, to Monday, August 11, 2025, the powerful Mega Raid Boss Mega Ampharos is electrifying Pokémon GO! As an Electric/Dragon-type, Mega Ampharos is a formidable attacker, but with the right strategy and counters, you can definitely take it down. Read on for everything you need to know to win this raid and catch a perfect Ampharos.

Mega Ampharos Raid Battle Info

Mega Ampharos appears as a Mega Raid Boss and possesses a unique Electric/Dragon typing.

  • Type: Electric / Dragon
  • Weaknesses: Ground, Ice, Dragon, Fairy
  • Resistances: Fire, Water, Electric, Flying, Steel
  • Mega Raid Boss CP: 54,611 CP

Mega Ampharos has clear type weaknesses, allowing trainers to choose effective counters based on their strongest Pokémon. Ground-type Pokémon are especially useful as they not only deal supereffective damage but also resist Mega Ampharos's Electric-type attacks.

Best CP for a Perfect Ampharos (100% IVs)

After you've successfully defeated Mega Ampharos, you'll enter the catch phase for a regular Ampharos. Here are the CP values to look for if you're aiming for a perfect (100% IV) catch:

  • Without Weather Boost: CP 1632 (15/15/15 IVs, Level 20)
  • With Weather Boost (Rainy or Windy): CP 2040 (15/15/15 IVs, Level 25)

Mega Ampharos gets a weather boost in Rainy weather (for its Electric typing) or Windy weather (for its Dragon typing). Raiding during these conditions gives you a chance at a higher-level Ampharos, saving you valuable Stardust!

Top Pokémon Counters for Mega Ampharos Raids (By Trainer Level)

To effectively take down Mega Ampharos, you'll need to utilize its weaknesses with the right Pokémon. Here are our recommendations based on trainer level and available Pokémon.

1. Recommended for Level 30 Trainers

At this level, you might not have a full team of maxed-out Legendary or Shadow Pokémon. Focus on readily available Pokémon that are still highly effective.

  • Mamoswine (Ice/Ground): Mud-Slap / Avalanche - Its dual typing allows it to exploit both the Ground and Ice weaknesses effectively.
  • Rhyperior (Ground/Rock): Mud-Slap / Earthquake - A reliable Ground-type attacker with good bulk.
  • Garchomp (Dragon/Ground): Dragon Tail / Earthquake - Can hit Mega Ampharos with both Ground and Dragon-type moves, both of which are super effective.
  • Glaceon (Ice): Frost Breath / Avalanche - An accessible and powerful Ice-type attacker from an Eevee evolution.
  • Metagross (Steel/Psychic): Bullet Punch / Earthquake - Can learn a Ground-type move to counter Mega Ampharos's weakness.

2. Recommended for Level 40 Trainers

At this level, you likely have access to and have powered up some Legendary and Shadow Pokémon. You can start building a more specialized and powerful team.

  • Shadow Mamoswine (Ice/Ground): Mud-Slap / Avalanche - The Shadow bonus makes this Pokémon an absolute beast, dealing massive damage.
  • Shadow Garchomp (Dragon/Ground): Dragon Tail / Earthquake - The Shadow boost combined with Ground/Dragon attacks makes it a top-tier counter.
  • Shadow Mewtwo (Psychic): Confusion / Ice Beam or Blizzard - A Shadow Mewtwo with an Ice-type move is an incredibly effective counter.
  • Landorus (Incarnate Forme) (Ground/Flying): Mud Shot / Earth Power - A powerful Ground-type Legendary that can deal significant damage.
  • Zekrom (Dragon/Electric): Dragon Breath / Outrage - As a fellow Dragon-type, Zekrom can hit Mega Ampharos with super effective Dragon-type attacks.

3. Recommended for Level 50 (Maxed) Trainers

For max-level trainers, the goal is to use the absolute best Pokémon to defeat the raid with minimal players. Mega Evolutions are highly recommended.

  • Mega Garchomp (Dragon/Ground): Dragon Tail / Earthquake - The ultimate counter, boosting both Ground and Dragon-type attacks for your entire party. It perfectly counters Mega Ampharos's weaknesses.
  • Mega Mamoswine (Ice/Ground): Mud-Slap / Avalanche - This Mega Evolution boosts both Ice and Ground-type attacks for your party, making it a fantastic choice.
  • Mega Rayquaza (Flying/Dragon): Dragon Tail / Outrage - A maxed-out Mega Rayquaza is a powerful Dragon-type attacker that deals immense damage.
  • Shadow Mamoswine (Ice/Ground): Mud-Slap / Avalanche - A maxed-out Shadow Mamoswine has one of the highest DPS outputs against Mega Ampharos.
  • Shadow Garchomp (Dragon/Ground): Dragon Tail / Earthquake - A maxed-out Shadow Garchomp's Ground/Dragon attacks will make short work of Mega Ampharos.
  • Zekrom (Dragon/Electric): Dragon Breath / Outrage - A maxed-out Zekrom is one of the most efficient Dragon-type attackers for this raid.

Additional Tips for Mega Ampharos Raids

  • Minimum Trainers: Mega Ampharos is a tough raid boss. Aim for at least 3-4 skilled trainers with effective counters for a comfortable clear. For less experienced teams, 5+ trainers are recommended.

  • Friendship Bonus: Raiding with your Best Friends gives you an attack bonus, helping you clear the raid faster.
  • Power Up & TM Your Pokémon: Before challenging the raid, ensure your chosen Pokémon are powered up as much as possible and have the optimal Fast and Charged Attacks using Fast TMs and Charged TMs.
